Talk about receiving a “sign”! I came across an ad for a sleep apnea oral appliance through Orchard Dentistry & Orthodontics while desperately searching for different forms of therapy. After my fitting, I wore the appliance that night and was finally able to breathe and sleep through the entire night without gasping. It was truly life-changing. Dr. Patel and his team were professional, transparent, and made the entire process hassle-free.
Sleep Apnea & Snoring Treatment
Better Sleep Starts Here
At Orchard Dentistry + Orthodontics, Dr. Shailain Patel believes better sleep can truly change lives. His passion for treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea and snoring began long before dental school. As a teenager, he spent time in his uncle’s sleep clinics — his uncle was one of the first dual board-certified sleep physicians and pulmonologists in California. There, Dr. Patel saw how sleep disorders affected patients’ energy, health, and even relationships. That’s when he learned about Oral Appliance Therapy — a custom, comfortable device worn during sleep that gently keeps the airway open.
After dental school, Dr. Patel completed two years of advanced training in Dental Sleep Medicine through the highly respected Niermann Practice Management program. Since then, he has helped patients who:
- Cannot tolerate CPAP
- Want a quieter, more comfortable option
- Travel frequently and need a portable solution
- Struggle with loud snoring that affects their partner
- Feel tired, foggy, or unrested despite “sleeping” all night
Dr. Patel works closely with sleep physicians to ensure patients are properly diagnosed and treated safely. He is credentialed in network with major medical insurance plans, including Kaiser, and is a contracted Medicare provider, allowing patients to use their medical benefits.
Oral Appliance Therapy
Struggling with a CPAP machine or unable to tolerate the mask? Oral appliance therapy offers a discreet, comfortable solution for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. This custom-made device gently repositions your jaw while you sleep, helping keep your airway open so you can breathe properly throughout the night.
Unlike bulky CPAP equipment, an oral appliance is compact, quiet, and easy to travel with. It fits comfortably in your mouth, similar to a retainer or nightguard, making it far easier for many patients to use consistently. And consistency is key when it comes to improving sleep quality and protecting your long-term health.
Better sleep does more than reduce snoring. It can improve energy levels, mental clarity, mood, and even support heart health. Treating sleep apnea is not just about rest, it is about protecting your overall wellbeing.
- Custom-fitted for maximum comfort and effectiveness
- No mask, hoses, or loud machines
- Improves airflow by gently repositioning the jaw
- Reduces snoring for more peaceful sleep
- Portable and travel-friendly
- Supports long-term health by addressing airway obstruction

What Are the Benefits of Treating Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea does more than disrupt your rest. It places stress on your body night after night. When breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, oxygen levels drop and your heart works harder than it should. Treating sleep apnea can significantly improve both daily comfort and long-term health.
- Deeper, more restorative sleep with fewer interruptions
- Increased daytime energy and mental clarity
- Reduced snoring for you and your partner
- Lower risk of heart-related complications
- Improved mood and focus throughout the day
Many patients are surprised by how dramatically their quality of life improves once their airway is properly supported during sleep.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Sleep Apnea Treatment?
Sleep apnea often goes undiagnosed because many symptoms occur during the night. If you wake up feeling exhausted despite a full night of sleep, experience frequent headaches in the morning, or have been told that you snore loudly, you may be a strong candidate for evaluation.
Oral appliance therapy is especially ideal for patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea or those who have struggled to adapt to CPAP therapy. A personalized assessment will determine whether this treatment is right for you.
Taking action now can prevent more serious health complications in the future and help you regain the energy you deserve.
- Loud, chronic snoring
- Waking up gasping or choking during the night
- Morning headaches or dry mouth
- Persistent daytime fatigue
- Difficulty tolerating CPAP therapy
